Did you know that all steel products especially Processed or “Fabricated Steel” in the UK needs to come from a UKCA marked and fully accredited steel supplier and manufacturer?
Not many people do. A lot of Steel Fabrication workshops all over the UK are not, and do not manufacture to any regulations or standards. Which is not only illegal but will cause invalidation of insurance and will mean your build cannot be completed.
G&M Steel Structures ltd can ensure all our steel products and services conform to all relevant regulations and are manufactured to specific standards set out by a governing body.
For all your “steel fabrication” needs look no further…..
What it is:
The UKCA marking (UK Conformity Assessed) is the new conformity marking for products placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Scotland, and Wales). It's essentially the equivalent of the CE marking, which was previously used for the EU market.
Why it's needed:
With the UK leaving the European Union, the CE marking is no longer sufficient for products being sold in Great Britain. The UKCA marking ensures that products meet UK-specific requirements, including safety, health, and environmental standards.
For structural steel:
For structural steel, the UKCA marking demonstrates that the steelwork complies with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and the relevant British Standards, such as BS EN 1090.
What it means:
The UKCA marking signifies that the product has been produced and specified in accordance with UK designated standards, ensuring that it meets the necessary performance characteristics.
How to achieve it:
Manufacturers and distributors need to follow specific requirements, including implementing a Factory Production Control (FPC) system, and having the system certified by an Approved Body. These requirements are outlined in the relevant standards and regulations.
Importance of BS EN 1090:
BS EN 1090 provides technical requirements for the execution of steel structures, including fabrication and erection. It's crucial for ensuring the safety, performance, and quality of structural steel in construction projects.
Benefits of UKCA marking:
The UKCA marking provides assurance that the steelwork is compliant with the relevant regulations and standards, ensuring the quality and safety of the product.
